Activities at the USS Midway Museum include flight simulators, the Battle of Midway Theater, catapult and trap talks, guided island tours, and an enriching junior pilot program for kids. Another exciting way to experience the glory days of the Midway is by taking part in an ‘Overnight Adventure’, which involves a series of activities aimed at authentically mimicking a typical day in the life of a historic Midway Sailor. Sleep in enlisted berthing spaces, enjoy dinner and breakfast served right in the galley (a ‘Mess Call’), and participate in a Reconnaissance Mission. You can also explore the museum on a Docent-led Tour.
Visitor Tips
Visiting this stunning naval museum is a fantastic experience, but it comes with rigid rules. It is important to be aware that all visitors are subject to a bag check before boarding the vessel. Food, drinks, glass containers, pets, bikes, skateboards, and weapons are all among the list of prohibited items. Be sure to leave any barred items at our hotel near the USS Midway before departing. Some of the USS Midway’s tours are audio-run and require headphones. To avoid having to buy any, be sure to bring your own!
The Museum’s official recommendation is to plan to spend 3-4 hours at the museum to explore all of the exhibits in their entirety. Same day re-entry is allowed.
When getting ready in the morning at our hotel near the USS Midway in San Diego, it is imperative that you dress comfortably with closed-toed shoes and lots of layers. Exploring the USS Midway requires a great deal of walking and climbing steep ladders and temperatures can drastically vary around the ship.
